About This Pencil Drawing Class:

This is a unique opportunity to take a pencil drawing workshop from me without having to fly to Colorado! I've been exhibiting in the Main Street Art Festival in Fort Worth, Texas for the past 6 years. So many of my Texas fans from that exhibit have traveled to Colorado to take drawing classes from me and now I'm coming to them. This drawing class will take place the weekend after the festival.

In this detailed drawing workshop students will learn the basic texture and shading techniques necessary to realistically render a variety of contrasting textures, such as  reflective metal, rusted metal, paper, wood, glass liquid, and more.

Lighting situations for still life art will be discussed and demonstrated, as well as how light can affect the appearance of these varied textures. Compositional techniques will be covered so the students will understand how the achieve maximum impact and realism. Reference photos and drawing from life will be discussed in depth, and students will learn how to identify and solve potential problems when working with both.

I will have my live camera and projector set-up to demonstrate these drawing techniques and then give each student individual attention to help them succeed.

The supplies are included for this class and yours to take home with you to continue.

I will have examples of my some of my work on display so you can see in person the degree depth and realism that is possible using these techniques.

Comments from Previous Workshop Students:

"Many people can paint or draw exceptionally well – but most of them are not equipped to teach. This was not the case with J D – presented a very well thought out program – very easy to understand."

"JD is very generous with his instruction. I really appreciated his honesty, attention to detail, and the pace of the instruction. He is a master artist and a master teacher!"

"Excellent Class! I really learned how to draw this weekend after taking dozens of drawing classes in college!"

"Having taken art classes in drawing, this is by far the best instruction I’ve ever had. This was a first class affair! From start to finish. It is sad for the people who missed it."

"JD is very thorough and has a very good way of explaining things in an informal - relaxed atmosphere."
